An educational assessment for
services is available for deaf, hard of hearing and/or non-verbal students
(whether or not they have a hearing loss).
It includes a review of records, observations, interviews, assessment of
language development, general academic performance, and social-emotional
status. Recommendations are made
regarding teaching strategies, support services and placement in order for
students to gain access to instruction and participation in the school
environment.
Recommendations for support
services for deaf or hard of hearing students may include; Teacher of the
Deaf/Hard of Hearing services, sign language support or instruction,
Educational Interpreting, Signing Skills Coach support, Captioning, Notetaking
or Cued Speech Transliterating.
The assessment for non-verbal
students may lead to a recommendation for sign language instruction, Signing
Skills Coach service, or other educational supports in order to provide access
to instruction and communication.
