Title:
Restorative Circle Practices for Teachers: Creating a Positive Learning Community in the Classroom
Restorative justice is gaining traction in schools across the U.S. as an approach to student misbehavior that improves the learning climate in the classroom, supports socio-emotional learning, and reduces reliance on suspensions. This workshop for teachers will focus on practical strategies for improving classroom climate. These include community-building circles that help students feel like they belong to the school community and problem-solving circles to address general concerns teachers (or students) may have about classroom behavior. The presenter will review the “5 C’s” of successful problem-solving circles: how they are Convened, helping students feel Connected, identifying Concerns, Collaborating to resolve the issue, and Closing with reflection and feedback.
